Age: 59, so possibly the oldest entrant. Rob & his brothers used to play about with cars in the mid 60’s. Old Ford Pops etc. They had a Ford 105E Anglia which was used in ‘ Jalopy Racing’ ( now called Autograss Racing ). Later Rob bought a straight Mk1 Escort body shell in grey primer and a written off donor car. He added huge fibre glass wheel arches, the front seams welded, strut tops reinforced and before re-assembling had it sprayed in Maize yellow. Despite delusions of going rallying it became a road car, though he learnt an awful lot about how modern motor car was put together. It was sold about 3 years later where it did get used for rallying. Rob used to repair his own cars - engine removal/rebuilds, clutches, brakes, suspension, etc... Would have had a go at most things. Nowadays it’s only his daughters cars he works on. Now of course theres the Sunny to play with!! |
